Description of competition

SIAL Canada's Trends and Innovations competition has gained a worldwide reputation for showcasing the latest trends and most important innovations in the agrifood industry. The competition is ready for its third successful year!

Trends and Innovations is a true communications platform that highlights innovations in the industry and brings them to the attention of buyers from the retail, restaurant and hospitality sectors as well as the North American media.

The selection process for participating products

All participating products are analyzed by an independent selection committee. This committee selects the products that are truly innovative. These products then receive the Trends and Innovations Selection” label.

The “Trends and Innovations Selection” products are then evaluated by an independent jury whose members have diverse and complementary skills relative to food industry innovation: chefs, designers, food writers, nutritionists, international innovation specialists, wholesale-retail professionals, etc. This jury determines the “10 Trends and Innovations Awards”,using criteria such as marketing strategy, manufacturing process, ingredients as well as packaging.

The recipient of the “Trends and Innovations Grand Prize” will then be selected by a third jury made up of hotel and restaurant management students from the Institut du Tourisme et de l’Hôtellerie du Québec (Quebec Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management). These food products are prepared by a chef and tasted by the jury.

How to enter your product

Entry in the Trends and Innovations competition is free and open exclusively to SIAL Canada exhibitors. The deadline for entries is March 12, 2010. To enter, see the online entry form in the website's CUSTOMER AREA.

Program

  • The Trends and Innovations area is at the heart of SIAL Canada: a unique exhibition space that highlights the innovative products selected by the jury, with special attention given to the Grand Prize for 2010.
  • A worldwide overview of food industry innovation in 2010: a seminar on the latest innovation trends in the food industry, presented by Xavier Terlet, the chairman of the Trends and Innovations Jury and the President of XTC World Innovation.
  • A special tour of the exhibit hall, highlighting all of the exhibitors whose innovative products have been selected.
