Olive d'or

Description of competition

Olive d'Or (the Golden Olive) is North America's largest extra virgin olive oil competition. The competition is being held for the fourth time, and its stellar reputation continues with more than 100 participating products from nearly 15 different countries.

The Olive d'Or competition's primary purpose is to showcase high-quality extra virgin olive oils. Because the competition takes place during SIAL Canada, Canada's largest food industry trade show, it has prime media exposure.

The Olive d'Or selection process

THE OLIVE D’OR MEDALS: INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

The Jury grants three levels of awards, depending on the quality of the olive oil that is entered: the Goutte d'or (golden droplet), the Goutte d'argent (silver droplet) and the Goutte de bronze (bronze droplet).

CERTIFICATE

A certificate is awarded to each producer who wins a medal in the competition. This certificate serves as a unique and official marketing tool and certifies the award's authenticity.

OTHER MARKETING EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF AWARD WINNERS

In addition to ongoing public relations efforts that have been developed over the years, numerous marketing campaigns are conducted to ensure high visibility for the contest winners and to increase their oils' reputation. These initiatives include press releases, newsletters and partnerships.

The Olive d'Or competition's reputation

The Olive d'Or competition complies with the standards of the International Olive Council

The oils are tasted by a jury made up of international experts with diverse backgrounds: producers, members of the Canadian Olive Council, chefs, distributors, nutritionists, flavor and taste experts, etc.

Since the competition's inception, Christine Cheylan has served as chairperson of the Jury. Ms. Cheylan is an olive industry expert and has presided over numerous national and international competitions. She is intensely involved in the olive production industry and trained as a professional taster. She is an olive producer, an oil mill manager, an olive production consultant and a competition juror.
